Plow Pose (Halasana)

Plow Pose, or Halasana, is an inverted posture that stretches the spine, shoulders, and neck while calming the nervous system. It improves flexibility in the back body and stimulates the internal organs for overall well-being.

Key Points

  1. Alignment:
    • Lie flat on your back with your arms resting by your sides, palms facing down.
    • On an inhale, lift your legs toward the ceiling (like in Shoulder Stand).
    • Use your core strength to slowly bring your legs overhead, lowering your toes toward the floor behind you.
    • Keep your hips stacked over your shoulders and your back straight.
  2. Engagement:
    • Press your palms firmly into the mat or interlace your fingers behind your back for stability.
    • Engage your core and thighs to support the lift and avoid straining the neck.
    • If your toes don’t touch the floor, keep your legs parallel to the ground or use props (like a bolster).
  3. Focus:
    • Avoid turning your head—keep your gaze upward to protect your neck.
    • Relax your throat and shoulders, ensuring weight is on the upper arms, not the neck.
    • Breathe steadily and focus on lengthening the spine and releasing tension.
  4. Breath:
    • Breathe deeply and evenly, keeping the pose calm and steady.
